using HDMI to hook up computer and LCD TV

I have a new Gateway computer and I want to hook it up to my Philips LCD tv to use as a monitor. I wanted to use hdmi to hdmi cables so I could get sound and video but I keep getting a no signal response on my LCD. Now I currently have it hooked up DVI to HDMI which doesn't give me sound. Can anyone tell me why the HDMI to HDMI cable is not working to give me picture or sound?

Your new Gateway has what graphics card? The NVidia cards that are listed on the Gateway.com web site don't have HDMI ports on them, just DVI.

Usually on computers the GRAPHICS card just outputs graphics. You don't get the integrated digital video and audio that is standard with HDMI.

thanks, I didn't think of that, I have a ATI radeon HD 2400XT, and my model # for the computer is GT5678
