Home audio & video forum: What is the best TV to buy with < $1400

Last I heard, Amazon was selling the new LED DLPs(1080p, 50") for less than $1300 shipped. I own one and could hardly be any more satisfied. It also has a PC input that can accept 1080p, but at that resolution you can't read much text, use lower resolutions to produce more readable print.

Since you mentioned 32", if this is a small room, you might not want to go too big (~42 in nice) LCDs can provide you with a good picture that shouldn't overwhelm you, though some people see a bit of motion blur in fast scenes. Plasmas have great pictures, but you'd have to pay much more of a premium to get a trustworthy model.

If you have a Costco near your home, I recommend that you go there and look at what they've got. For the price that you are wanting to spend you can get a nice Vizio that's 42" or bigger, or a Sony or Sharp that's in the 40" to 42" range. I don't know why you are interested in only LCD when plasma will give you much more TV for your dollar, especially in that price range. But it's your choice and Costco offers some of the best bang for your buck. Good luck in your search.

Find a distributor near you on Ebay. Go 720p and pay almost half of what you're thinking. Directbuyelectronics,beyondplasma or laplasma. Do a search for item number: 170194997248. This is the same display you see behind newscast people. As well as Pioneer.

Since you're posting on CNET, why not just simply click on the "Reviews" tab at the top of this page, go to TVs, then click on your price range. The reviews give links to many sellers who sell at, or less than your price range. And you can narrow your search to LCD only. You're asking people here to do the legwork that you should be doing before you buy a TV. Ask anyone what the best car is, and I'd bet you get the same number of people who will swear that Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, etc. are all "the best". Same thing with TVs. Read the TV reviews here and read owners comments.

I bought my 46 inch Samsung LCD(Model: LNT-4661F) for $1,350 (no tax yet) in Circuit City last Dec 18, 2207. I'm very satisfied with it. I'm tight with my budget too when buying the Samsung. I did some researched thru internet, forums, CNET, etc before deciding to buy it.
There are other brands and models that have the same quality if not better than the one I bought but for a higher price. Go to Best Buy, Circuit city and compare the video quality and price. Prices also in the internet such as Amazon.com are much cheaper. Read some forums in

Best Buy has some good deals on the LNT Samsung models. I've seen the 40-50 inch models all for less $1400. The 32inch is around $700. I have a vizio LCD and while ok for the price. I can hardly recommend it with the Samsung's only a couple hundred more. All of them are 720P. You won't see a difference in TV's smaller than 50" I wouldn't wast money getting a 1080P. Otherwise... on the big end. Samsungs DLP TV's are nicely in this price range. Personally though... Like other people have said... I would get a plasma. The 42" Pioneer Kuro is $1500 at best buy. You'd need to spend $3000 plus to match the picture quality with an LCD (if possible at all). The new 42" panasonic is available at best buy for $1199. It's a killer deal. I wasn't able to get a good source to it when I looked it this weekend but even with standard deaf it looked very promising. The panasonic does not have a VGA port though.
