Home audio & video forum: Popping/Clicking sound from speakers

I would also like to add that I have 2 front speakers and 2 rear speakers connected, no subwoofer. I've also tried different speakers and speaker wires, with no help.
I've called Sony's customer support and they ended up telling me the receiver needed repair, but I have read online of others who have this same problem.

The receiver does not have a three-prong electrical plug, and is not grounded in any way that I know of. I've tried connecting the ground screw in the back to screws in the wall to ground it, but no luck. I don't think any of the speaker wires are shorting out either.

I've tried resetting everything to factory specifications, no luck.

The front speakers I use are my dad's old ones from 1977, the rear speakers are cheap ones i found in the basement.
It's not really a huge problem if any of them are hurt.

The only thing connected to it is my computer and an FM antenna.
I unplugged everything from the receiver except the speakers and it still made the sound.

It very well could be defective, and I don't think I'd mind paying to get it fixed, but the nearest repair shop that Sony found for me was an hour away.
