HDTV Picture Quality: Is the PROBLEM in the SIGNAL or LAMP
by frag2 - 12/14/07 8:21 AM
PROBLEM:Several programs on different channels display too dark even after adjusting contols to correct image. Daylight scenes on programs like Law&Order, special victims, criminal intent,Cold Case,CSI, etc on CBS,NBC,ABC,TNT,USA appear dim. COMMERCIALS ALWAYS COME IN CLEAR&WELL LIGHTED. CNN(24,25);CNBC(26),FOX(27),MSNBC(28) DISPLAY THE BEST.
Although, the projection lamp is approaching its maximum 8,000 hours usage, I am unclear as to why I get better reception on some channels & not other channels.
EQUIPMENT USED: Comcast HDTV cable, hooked up to Scientific Atlanta HD 8300DVR connected to a SONY KDS-R50XBR1,50" REAR PROJECTION HDTV via component cable connection. As some may be aware of Sony's legal issues with this specific set, the "OPTICAL BLOCK" was replaced when yellow, green issues became evident. I don't think the replacement of the optical block is related to the current problem with the set. I may be wrong.
I spoke with a Comcast service tech about the signal strength & of course they compress the signals as well as other cable providers & what little HD programing they offer is usually transmitted at 480i, if not mistaken, thereby not getting the full capabilities of my set, not to mention the high fees!!!!
Your feedback is appreciated. Thank You.
