Home audio & video forum: DVD Media Server, for on demand watching

There is a way of doing what you want but it may not be an inexpensive way to do it as I'm unsure of what you'd need with respect to hardware and software to utilize it in the way you want. There is some new HDTV Free To Air Satellite Receivers with internal hard drives and or the ability to install a hard drive that would be controlled by the Satellite Receiver. I have no idea as to why you would want to store a 1000 movies as it would make the cost higher but it's your call. The HDTV satellite receiver that I'm referring to is an HDTV model called a Sonicview 8000 another is Viewsonic 8000 which is not yet available. You would need a satellite dish to make this part of your system and warrant the cost of doing it but it would be worth the investment in the end. Go to FTA website and you'll find a forum which can and will answer all your questions about these units and anything else you might have with regards to these units storage and recording aspects.

I mentioned this in another post, but Xtream Media Servers makes a Damn Good Media Server!!! ,Kaleidescape is sweet but the price is way way far out!! Xtream is WAY cheaper and DOES BLU-RAY AND HD which Kaleidescape does not, and does not plan to. Sorry to be such a cheerleader but i bought one a few months back and DAMN!!!! it it Amazing.I'm all into the whole media server stuff now (to my wife's dismay lol)so check them out. www.xtreammediaservers.com
