Audio Cable Repair Help. Grounding?

Hey everybody, I have a problem. You see, I bought one of those fancy-pants 50 dollar VGA cables fro my Xbox 360 by Monster, but the shielding around the audio cable part was to small to fit into the stereo. (sorry, I don't know technical terms.) So I stretched it out. Unfourtunately, parts of it broke off (it was in segments) and so the audio cuts in and out. Does anyone know how to fix this?
