Why not install a car stereo into the kitchen wall?

I'm sure this is dumb, but someone tell me why. Designing a room addition off the kitchen, and gutting the kitchen. Want to control music, insert CDs/DVDs from kitchen without using countertop or under-counter real estate. Latest double-din car units have remotes and all the features one could want. I can run the output to my AV receiver, amp it, and pipe from there to whole house or the pool. The backside of the wall is the inside of a closet, so the unit can poke through the other side and be wired from there. I would have to step the house power down to 12v DC, but I can't think why that would be a problem.
What am I missing?
