Fix my old Denon receiver or buy new one?

I have a Denon AVR 2800, about 7 yrs old (5.1 ch, 85watts), which was near top of the line when I bought it (cost me around $700-800).
It has burned out and needs repair, which estimates are about $165-$200.
I have considered purchasing a new one, but I can't afford it's equivalent because I just spent $1800 on a new HDTV.
My question is this - should I fix what I have - a very good receiver with some age - OR - spend an extra $100 or so and buy a "low end" receiver? If I bought Denon's 587 at $299, would I notice any difference in that versus my 7 year old 2800 model?
I do not use my receiver for video, and I do not care about 6.1 or 7.1 surround right now - I'm not adding any speakers to my current set up - I'm only interested in running TV and DVD audio through it.
