Laying Down a Plasma Issue

I am told by the people at best buy that if i were to buy a plasma tv and lay it down flat in my trunk that it would damage the tv. They said that plasma tv's can only stand straight up or else your wasting your money. Is this true?

See how they ship them. While laying it flat is not an issue the forces that act on the panel while flat could do some damage (potholes, etc.)

If you expect no bumps on the way home, it will be fine.

its just there are SO MANY BS customers out there that will try to return a tv after droping it saying it came like this. or in the old days where crt guns could get knocked out of alignment if laid on its side. or the stupid rumor where people think "omg the gases would leak out". etc.

i usually dont recommend it, but i will help a customer do it if he or she insists. so many people think a 50 inch plasma can fit in the trunk of a civic..... i know my limits as far as lifting goes(and i would ask the customer if he has help at home)...if he does not have help or if i need to jam the tv into the car tightly, i will refuse to put the tv in just due to the possibility of it breaking.

I know that laying a refrigerator down on it's side isn't a good thing when moving it around. Oh, we're talking about plasmas. Sorry. Just thought this might be important if you move some day and you ship your refrigerator along with your plasma. happy

just wait 24 hours after you stand it up for the oil to drain back into the compressor and then you are good to go
