What does aspect ratio control mean

I am thinking of buying a Panasonic 42 inch PX50U plasma HDTV. A review by CNET gives it good grades but mentions that one negative is that you "can't change aspect ratio with HD sources."

I have researched the term aspect ratio but am unclear just what is meant by ..."can't change aspect ratio with HD sources."

1. What exactly is the impact of not being able to change aspect ratio with HD sources and 2. along the same lines what effect, if any, is there on standard digital cable brodacasts.

I have Comcast cable and have been told that the HD cable box allows for aspect ratio control - to what extend is uncertain.

I asuume you understand aspect ratio,,3x4 vrs 16x9,,etc.
On my HDTV I can select 16x9, 3 different zoom settings or 3x4 to control how the image looks on the screen. This works for ALL inputs or Broadcast channels.
All analog TVs hava a fixed aspect ratio 3x4.

"can't change aspect ratio with HD sources."
This means it will be 16x9 ONLY, take it or leave it.
