Converting Super 8 movies to digital

I have many old family movies that are in Super 8 format and would like to know the best way to convert them into digital format.

What will be the best way to save these and get them converted?

My solution

I set up my projector and screen, then video taped the movies with the camera on a tripod. Worked pretty well actually. You can then transfer to DVD via a DVD recorder or computer.

Projector to mirror then image to draughting paper, then camera on tripod, on other side of paper, gives a profesional job.

converting 8MM movies

I had 12 large cans of 8MM, before super 8. You need a mirror box with many for sale on ebay. You need a 8MM projector to project your film into the mirror box and a digital handy can. Play the movies and recore on the handycam using the mirror box. Then you take the digitized movies from the camcorder tape and capture to your computer. Many progams to then burn to DVDs. Any questions, email me. The films, even though over 50 years old, came out real well. You can edit easily. A lot easier than trying to cut the old film and glue. I still have the projector and will sell cheap. In hawaii, so expensive to ship. Many on ebay. Be sure to have a good lamp as the lamps are worth more than the projector.

I too have many old super 8 film reels which I want to convert to digital. I too have attempted to use a digital camcorder to record the projected film images. The problem that I ran into is as follows:
The shutter speeds of the projector and the camcorder are not in sync, and so at frequent intervals the camcorder records a bright flash which occurs between the frames on the projected film.
My question is - Do you have a solution to this problem?
