How to plug mp3 player into a car's stereo?

Hi everyone;

A few years ago, someone in my passenger seat plugged his ipod into my car and played songs through my car stereo system. My car only has a radio / single CD player (00 mitsubishi mirage) so I have no idea how he did it, but now want to try it myself using a cheap mp3 player if possible.

Anyone know what will be needed for this?

That depends on the stereo. So better look in your user manual.

When I wanted to do that in my Ford Focus 2005 (which already had an AUX button on the car stereo) I had to go to the garage to have them make a connection to it. That wasn't present yet.
