Is there *anything* bigger than Apple's 160 GB iPod classic? My 80 GB iPod is full, and I'm worried that the 160 will be full in a year or two. I don't care about video or photos. I just want to be able to take my entire collection with me. I know Archos used to make a high-capacity model, and I'm pretty sure there was a Zune as well.

Any suggestions?

Sometime this year you'll see a new design where the player's content is much smaller. You'll put it all on your cloud then as you make requests it fetches that to local storage. Over time what you want and use the most is local and will play with no delay.

If you want a really decent device, stick with the 160GB iPod. If you would like a tank, find a 250MB Wolverine. It's Fugly though. (Why bother with a device that doesn't have Apple support and it's track record that you like, I assume?)

The other option would be to get a MP3/MP4 internet connected device that enables streams so you can rely on infinite amounts of home storage where you set up a music service for you to connect to as needed.

My question for you is, what the heck are you downloading that's filling it up so fast? DJ mixes? Or are you just a digital pack rat like I am? (LOL) Just don't discover FLAC or lossless files. You will be doomed(!)

Yup. You could call me a digital pack rat. I have over 1200 CDs that I'm in the process of ripping. I prefer to rip at a bit rate of 192, so the files end up taking up more space than the standard 128.

Thanks for the tips. It looks like 160 GB is my best bet unless i want to attempt to upgrade the hard drive and battery in my 80GB.

I'd say that sounds about right, space-wise.

FWIW, you might also consider first ripping as FLAC files and backing up the whole shebang on a 1TB drive, since they are relatively affordable now. This way you won't have to worry about anything with the original CDs. You can quickly create an original disc from the FLAC files, and also create a separate MP3 archives for portable use that includes iTunes/iPod.

Having a backup is always useful IME, and relatively easy to pull off.
