If you look at how the groups are re-aligned in Redmond they are betting big time on WP7. The days of the ipod look to have plateaued so the big money is on smart phones and pads.

...then it's yet another example of Microsoft ADD when it comes to developing its product lines beyond Windows, Office and these days perhaps Xbox. (I intentionally left out the 'H', since hyperactivity is rarely something you see out of Redmond.)

Reality Distortion Field.
As an app developer for many things (PalmOS, WinMo, Win, embedded stuff) WP7 is quite an interesting case study. Look at the players and read all you can find.
