Looking for a high capacity mp3 with video that ISNT an ipod

For the second time in 2 years my ipod decided to die, and since I dug into Apple, found that their warranty isn't even a full year. It's 245 days.

I'm looking for a high capacity (100 gig or more) mp3/video player that supports FLAC files. So far I've found nothing but the Archos 5 Internet Tablet which doesn't seem to be getting very good reviews. Anyone know of anything else/anything coming out in the near future (I'm dying without a portable source of music).

Or so that's what the manufacturers apparently think.

AFAIK, Apple and Archos are it in these times. Flash-mem based devices are the standard nowadays, and that's unlikely to change or at least revert back to platter-based storage unless the 1" HD makers suddenly make their product dirt cheap. I'd expect that 128GB NAND-based devices will be showing up at SOME point (perhaps this fall), given that we've already seen the 64GB Touch and now Zune HD.

Thanks a lot for the info, I'll be sure to keep a look out for those!
What do you think about the Archos 5? I'm really not looking forward to waiting 4 months for a new product even though it's not that far away.

Archos 5

I played around with the latest Archos 5 at a local Best Buy a while back. I thought it did video pretty well, but its touchscreen wasn't all that responsive and while dinking around in the various apps and functions I thought that at times it seemed sluggish. I didn't have my own cans with me or any of my music files on the device, so there's no chance at an objective opinion regarding its SQ relative to my Zune HD, Sony X1061 or iPod Touch. In general it seemed like a neat device, but without real hands-on time I can't say for sure how impressed or disappointed I really was with it.

One thing was for sure...it's BIG. For a device that anyone is going to be used primarily for music, its form factor isn't very attractive at all to me. To be honest I think the Archos 5 is best suited for video use more than anything else.

Realizing, ALAC isn't quite the same as FLAC or OGG, I've given up dealing with carrying around lossless or FLAC tracks too much on my portable devices. I have instead focused on having more places to listen to the music I already have on my iPods & Touch, regardless of whether or not it was ripped at 192 or 320kbps. Examples- Logitech audioexpress dock in the kitchen, Okyo dock downstairs by the Home Theater receiver, and Alpine head unit in the car w/ dock connector for better fidelity & control of the iPod/Touch from the car stereo.

As much as I'd love to have all 200(?) Gigs of lossless with me, I find it's easier to work with those files from a networked/external hard drive than a portable player at this time. That said, I'd welcome the chance to sample the right device wink.
