Windows Media Player 9 overwrites media info

I had used Windows Media Player 9 for several years with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 & 3. I can't recall if I ever used it with SP2 until recently. I had always kept Tools Options Media Library Rename and rearrange music using media information unchecked with only add missing information selected. I had no problem with editing and retaining Title, Artist, Album, and Release Date entries.
I reinstalled Windows Media Player 9 a few days ago (as mentioned in recent post) because the program had stopped retrieving data from the internet. This may or may not have been connected with upgrading to Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 several months ago during the period when the data retrieval stopped. After the reinstallation of WMP9 onto SP2 from the original Gateway WXP Pro SP1 CD, WMP9 started retrieving data from the internet again.
The next day I spent several hours editing Title, Artist, Album, and Release Date entries for a compilation audio CD set. After I reinserted the CDs to check for tracks that didnt get ripped, all of the edits I had made had been replaced with AMG data even though the computer was not connected to the internet and the Tools Options Media Library Rename and rearrange music using media information was still unchecked and only add missing information was selected as before the WMP9 reinstallation.
Does anyone have similar experience and/or ideas how to get WMP9 to stop overwriting changes when the program seems like it is already set to prevent that from happening?
Is there another setting that is not so obvious?
Am I at risk of having all changes in the media library overwritten now if the computer goes online?
