Here's my take on iPod-Wise up Apple...
I could probably cite several of these "reasons"
I currently do not own an iPod. I've owned a Creative Zen 40GB and a Sansa e280. Both broke. I'm now looking for something realiable, with a solid aftermarket of accessories and support. I'd also like to stick with flash based players because of the lack of moving parts. I'm curious about the iPod, but I am concerned about Apple's very unapologetic, fiercely proprietary posturing, as experienced through my (BRIEF) dealings with iTunes.
Also, I thing Apple has gone way overboard with the whole "smaller is better" thing. I think that's an admirable design goal, but only to a point. I mean the new Nano is to the point where it feel like if you're not careful, it will blow away with a strong breeze! The iPod Shuffle is just plain silly with its Zoolander-ish dimensions. But Sandisk is just as guilty with the microSD cards. I guess picoSD is next.
Anyway, other than the size, the iPod nano looks good. And I really like the Touch as well. Very unique. Reminds me of my PSP.
I may give the iPod more consideration, but I just don't want Apple being able to determine how I experience my music with a lot of DRM junk getting in the way. That's probably my main barrier to buying an iPod. If there were no worries there, I probably would.
