What are you looking for?
To be honest, it all depends on what your main purpose in getting a player is. I have personally never fiddled with the Nano, but I do have experience with the Mini's, and I have owned a Zen. I came away impressed more with the Zen series.
The interface of both products is very easy to get used to, and once you get attached, you'll love either setup. The iPod gets the style points, though.
I went with the Creative, primarily because of the extra storage. I don't have a humongous collection, but I nearly ran out of room with the zen, and I know I would have with the Nano.(I think I was 4 megs from filling my Micro :))
The sound is excellent on both, but the fact that Creative manufactures soundcards kinda swayed my decision. I've never experienced a sound differential, though. I don't think you'd be able to, either, unless you buy expensive aftermarket headphones.
I would say go with the Zen, just for the extra capacity, and to have something OTHER than and iPod
I will say, though, that My Micro just broke yesterday (at about 5 months of ownership). It developed headphone jack issues, and wasn't making a full connection, so sound was comprimised. I lost my reciept, and couldn't use the warranty (poop), tried to fix it myself, and messed it up more.
With that said, I'm confident in the product, and I am ordering a Creative 40Gig Touch today. Really quality product, and it survived a number of 4-5 ft drops on a concrete gym floor.
Either way, you can't go wrong, both are industry leading products. Enjoy, whatever you get.
