MP3 players forum: Ipod Nano or Zen MicroPhoto

Yea looks are great and all, but really what do you need in a player. Do you need the fm radio? Do you need the extra for gbs. If so go for the zen mirco. Do you need a flash player like do you work out or are you a major klutz? Then get the micro. They both look good. Just get the one that best suites your needs.

I do have the nano and I can tell you it's very durable. I drop it all the time, at this point I just throw it around cause I'm so confident in it durability. It's not very scratched up much because I have a case for it. I love it and the reason I love it isn't because of the looks, but because it have everything I need in an DAP. Okay the looks play a big role in my love of it. I customized it so it looks even hotter!

Just get the one that suites your needs. Decide how much space you need and the features you need. But seriously they both look good. The Micro is cute and the nano is sexy.

I like that it's a hard clear case. With the case on I can still fit the nano into my coin pocket. The hold button, click wheel and bottom (where the dock connector and headphone jack are) are open. It comes in three pieces. Front, back and bottom. The bottom piece comes off so you can dock the nano without completely taking in out of it's case. It's slightly textured and frosted, that way you won't worry about cosmetic scratches on the case. I like it alot. Let us know what you decide.

Go for the MicroPhoto...you'll be getting a much better deal, and I think you'll get over the fact that it's not as "stylish" as the iPod very quickly. I got a Nano, because I thought it was the cool thing to have, but I quickly realized that having something that works well is much more important than having something that looks nice. Besides, I found it necessary to buy a case for the Nano because of how easily it scratched, and that completely detracts from the looks anyway. Buy a quality product instead.

After trying to sort through all of that gibberish, I think that you were trying to say that you should get an iPod because you can take it to an Apple Store if it breaks down. I happen to live in a large city, and the nearest Apple store is still over 2 hours away. Not really worth the drive, if you ask me. In that case, you'd have to deal with AppleCare (which is pretty pathetic customer service, if you ask me, they don't even let you email them, and their reps don't know anything). So you really don't end up in any better shape than you would if you went with Creative. Besides, neither I nor any friend of mine has ever had a Creative player break on us. I've heard several cases (mine included) of iPods breaking. So even if Apple did have better customer service, it's much more preferrable to go with a company with poor customer service that you would never need to use anyway (not saying Creative has poor customer service, I just wouldn't know because I've never had to call them).

i hate it when these creative enthusists keep talking about how creative players have more "Value". Keep in mind that value is an opinionate term on these forums. Value is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps he doesn't need the fm tuner or the extra 4gb of storage. And instaed is active and prefers the functionality of the nano and its flash memory. So basically, all i'm saying is before you toss around terms like value and "better deal" keep in mind that people may look for different things in their players than what YOU like.

in terms of VALUR FOR YOUR MONEY (and overall value) the Micro Photo IS better. The Nano is expensive interms of gigabytes per dollar. For the same price, you can get DOUBLE (that's two times, 2X :)) the capacity, which makes it overall preferable.

The Zen Microphoto's screen is completely visible at night. Don't comment unless you know what you are talking about.

What are you talking about? The Zen doesn't skip, the screens aren't any brighter than the other, and just because the Nano is smaller doesn't mean its of better quality.

...do this check list:
• Will the player come with power charger/adapter for both line and car outlet ?
• Does the managing sw allow you to use the player while connected to the PC USB port for charging?
• May you chose wheater to register the sw or not without risking it locking your PC?
• Will the player put off the display while listening songs in order to save battery?
• Are the buttons clearly and individually activated with normal adult fingers without getting into wrong button/operations.
• Is the menu clear and does the display allow enough characters in order to get a complete information screen about a song.?
• Is the display window scratch resistant and coated against glare/refletion?
• Will the player come with MP3 conversion software?
• Will the player read bmp, gif, tif, jpg, jpeg image/photo files?
• Will the player read mp3, mp4, ogg, wma song files?
• Does it manage the photo files on SD memory card, rotating and zooming, without the need to copy them into the internal memory?
• Does it play DivX, Xvid, Mpg, Mov, Qt, Flv, Swf, Avi movie files?
• Does it read text (.txt) or any other textual file?
• Is really managing SD card as the internal memory in order to give a REAL and UNLIMITED ... EXPANDIBILITY???
• When playing a song or a movie on SD card, will it allow a correct resume after had put it off and back on?
• Does it allow drag&drop or you must install managing software that decides what you must do?
• Does it pause and resume MP3 playing on SD card without blasts and hisses?
• Does it allow you to copy/transfer specific photo/music/video files or does it obliges you to copy the whole SD and just if it is less than free internal memory? (sounds strange.. isn’t it? Well, check it)!)
• After had transferred files from SD to internal memory, does it allow you to delete some/all the files? (think about personal/private files you won’t live on friend’s player…)
• Does it clearly display MP3 bit-rate and tag info of MP3 files on both internal or SD memory?
• Can it record from the FM radio?
• Is the FM radio sensitive and selective enough and able to display RDS data?
• How long will the battery last when… playing songs, playing movies, standing-by, staying off (will it truly go off?) ?
• Are the included hear-phones good enough?
• Is the documentation rich and clear?
• Will it work with Linux?

I was looking on the internet a while ago and spotted a pretty neat looking case for the Nano which is probably what I would buy if deciding on getting the Nano....

I know what ya mean, I have a friend who uses the included case and I think it gets scratched just as much as outside the case. They Suck.

It depends on personal opinion mostly. The Ipod Nano is very durable despite its small size and has a host of features above its predeccesor (the mini). I personally dislike the Zen's bulkiness and heavy weight as it causes pockets to be dragged down. I also dislike the Zen's touch system which has some sensitivity problems. If an FM radio is that important to you then go for the Zen. As a whole I'd go for the nano because of its good weight, clickwhell, quality, and many little features.
