Which iPod to record voice for blind friend and copy to CDs?

I want to read articles and book sections into a voice recorder, then transfer the recording to CD for a blind friend. (He is set up to play CDs.) I am thinking of buying an iPod to do this, with a Griffin iTalk attachment. (The iTalk has received better reviews than the Belkin recorder.) Here is my question: What is the LEAST EXPENSIVE iPod I can buy for this purpose? (iTalk won't work with Mini or Shuffle.)

The other purpose I have for the iPod is to record songs from CDs that I own so I can listen to them while in the car or on the exercise machine. I am not interested in downloading songs.

I would greatly appreciate any advise. (That is, which iTalk-compatible iPod to buy?) Or maybe I should buy something else, not an iPod? Please remember I want the unit for TWO purposes: (1) to record for my blind friend and transfer to CD, and (2) to transfer songs from CD to the unit.

Judging by your want for an ipod im sure you have a home pc or laptop. If so all you need is a computer microphone which you could read the article or what not into and record directly onto your computer. This can be done using loads of programs eg..windows media player plus! anolauge recorder. If you still want an ipod get a 2nd/3rd gen ipod with the italk connector.

using a microphone would make .wav files, the ipod would make mp3 files, which are smaller, and who cares about sound quality when you're reading as long as you can comprehend it right?

No get the ipod to record mp3 files that he can listen to on an mp3 player, or cd. The microphone's just gonna take up too much space.

Don't get the I-Pod.

Why blow $400 on an I-Pod when you can spend $30 on a sound editing program, or even spend nothing at all, and use your PC to record?

Making MP3's on PC is no sweat.

It seems that some of the more ignorant people here think that MP3's are magical and that only the I-Pod can make them... ?
