Canon Remove cassette error message

by rickscript - 4/2/05 4:53 PM

I am the owner of 2 Canon Elura 2MC mini dv digital video camcorders. Both of my cameras have developed a problem common to the Canon Elura, Optura and ZR series of camcorders, but also present in the GL series. After a certain amount of use, the camera refuses to accept tapes for playback or recording and flashes a message on the screen saying "Remove Cassette". At this point the camera is virtually useless and very costly to repair. After reading several forums on this isuue, it is apparent that this is a very significant problem affecting many users. In many cases, the problem re-occurs after a short time. Canon has known about this issue for years, has not corrected it satisfactorily, and denies the existence of the problem at all. If you have not purchased a Canon video camera yet, research this issue a bit more and save yourself some money. If you own one of these "lemons", I would like to direct you to a web-site I have created called "Canon 'Remove Cassette' Action". I am doing some preliminary efforts to gather names of affected owners with an interest in pursuing legal action to obtain relief from Canon. Like all manufacturers who make tidy profits from produced goods, they should be held responsible for design defects that affect a disproportionate percent of owners. the link/URL to my site is:
