Canon HG10 Ext. Input Noise

I was recording a high school theater performance the other night. I had the sound coming out of a SUB out on the mixer board, and that feeding into the mic input on the camera. I notice that when the camera was running off the battery, the audio sounded just fine. However, when I plugged in the power adapter, there was a lot of noise in the audio. Why is this?

Mains generated earth loop

The sound may be caused by an earth loop. This is similar to feedback when a mic is placed near a speaker, in this case the loop is through the mains connection to the camera and the mixer board. It is not uncommon and can be difficult to remove. Suggest you run on battery while recording.

So I did some reading on this subject, and am I right in saying that if I plug the camera into the same outlet the mixer board is plugged into, the problem will be solved, or at least greatly improved?

Mains Loop

No the camera should not be plugged into the same electricity supply as any other equipment used to provide sound for the recording.
A mains loop is where there is an electrical connection shared by two bits of kit, you complete the loop by connecting the SUB to the camera audio input. By running the camera on battery and not supplying it with mains power, you break the loop and the noise will not be generated.
