Hd Camcorder help Canon 7d vs Full hd camcorder

So I'm thinking about purchasing an HD camera in the coming months and need some help. I would probably spend about 1000 dollars tops for what I want, maybe a little more. I would be using this to film surf, and skate movies, and maybe some other things as well such as short web commercials for a local company. I just got back into filiming and am upgrading my old Panasonic Pv-Gs400 from 7 years ago which was great in its time, but is obsolete now. So most of my filming is done from the beach say on a tripod with zoom a must.
I've done some research and come down to two roads I can take. The Canon Vixia HF g10, or buy the Canon 7d DSLR and use it with a nice lens on video mode. I know both would produce amazing video quality, I'm just wondering if there are any limitations the 7d has that say the vixia wouldn't have since it is a dedicated camcorder. I could also use the 7d to take photos as well which is weighing in the back of my mind too. But video is my first choice so if the vixia is vastly superior in video I would take that in a heartbeat.
So I guess my question is, Does the 7d have any limitations since it is a DSLR, And I don't really know anything about the manual options on each, exposure, white balance, focus and such. And lastly is there another camera or camcorder that I am over looking for my needs? Thanks in advance!
