Why does the Panasonic PV-GS120 shut off after 10 min?

Anyone know why does the Panasonic PV-GS120 shut off after 10 min if not recording. Also, the HC-700m? Is there any way to prevent it? I set up transmitters for multiple cameras and I have to restart them several times during setup.

I worked for an engineering group on that and we went over to Japan to meet with Canon about it. They supplied us with a modification inside the camcorder as long as we voided the warranty. I know the issue but find few are willing to do the engineering trips and such.

For those that need just a camera you need to avoid consumer camcorders.
