I want to buy a camcorder but I am CLUELESS?

I'm looking to buy a camcorder but there are SO MANY to choose from and I'm really not familiar with all of the technicalities you have to know. What I know is, I want to get into hands on filmmaking and start playing around and practicing with it because I want to eventually go to film school. My budget is under $1,000 and probably my biggest concern is video quality. I plan on uploading things on YouTube and I know it dulls down the quality even for HD videos, so something that looks good even at 360p. I've seen a lot of video tests but mostly of landscapes and I really want to focus on shooting people in both indoor, outdoor, and lowlight. I'm looking for good battery life (like 5 hrs+) and a lot of memory (like I said I don't know much about internal/external memory,) I was thinking about the canon vixia hf g10 but I feel like I don't know enough about cameras to justify spending that much, and I'm planning on the 'learn by doing' method. Does anyone have any suggestions??And could you also suggest something for lighting, microphone, tripods, software, and really ANYTHING you can suggest would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I worked really hard saving up and I don't want to waste it by making a rookie mistake.
