Beginner Help! Best Cam for Short Film

Hello. I am new to film making and I am about to shoot my first short film. And I have little to no knowledge when it comes to video cameras.

My question is what is the best affordable camera to buy to shoot a short film that can be seen as 1080p? Can any HDSLV shoot a good quality 1080p video?

Also the scenes which I intend on shooting is at night time with limited lighting and an interior scene with limited lighting as well. What camera/lens would be best for that?

If anyone can provide a camera model or link that would help a lot!

I would appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

The camera does not make or take the shot.

And as bad as it was, look at The Blair Witch Project and what they used. Now, it's not the camera.

-> As to your lighting issue. It's a lesson it appears you seem intent on repeating. Add light, get it over with.

I'm seeing videographers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videographer ) , especially the new ones have to learn not only the basic lighting and audio work but often suffer greatly in post production. For the new folk to this, a heavy nod to Apple's Final Cut Pro HD and for the PC Sony Vegas.

Good luck and let's hope the lesson happens sooner than later.
