Camcorders forum: HELP with purchase of a LCD for sony hdr-sr7e!

To update what I did after my last post, I disassembled the camera today to see whether the Backlight is attached or detached to/from the LCD. Fortunately and to my relief the Backlight is detached from the LCD. So, it means it's safe to order that LCD display from the Chinese supplier. I know there is a risk of loosing some bucks but it's better than an almost useless camera that cost at least 200 euros.

I will update this thread after I receive, hopefully, and instal the spare part.

don't you think i will be able to install the new LCD screen once i get it for a price of $55 which is not that bad?

my main question and concern is whether this LCD display on that online vendor is gonna work bearing the fact that the seller states that it is 'without backlight'?

Only you can know if it works and you might only know after the fact.

Why do you suspect the backlight? It's rarely CCFL anymore and breaking the LED would take so much force that the camcorder should be in many pieces.

I suspect the backlight merely because the seller has stated that it has no backlight. apart from that i dont have much knowledge of LCD and its related stuff.
So you think backlight has nothing to do with LCD? And btw, does the brightness on display screen of camcorder provided by the LCD or some other LED?

I see that you have little background in how things work. Since I can't write all that is needed here I suggest you google "How does a LCD work?" for a primer. You should learn that the LCD is a shutter system (in simple terms) and the light source is something else. Since it's such a new camcorder I noted it would be a LED light source and your posts have helped me see you are hoping it is just the LCD.

It may be that. You seem to write the LCD is smashed so why not replace it?

If you are lucky you are done. If not, you can get it fixed by Sony.

Yeah it seems like smashed and I want to replace it. I started this thread cause I was confused whether the note, 'not backlight', on the LCD seller's page is a matter of concern or not. Now, is it safe to conclude from your posts that I can replace the smashed/broken LCD with the one on this website?

Sony is of no help in this case because my camcorder is out of warranty.

But as I don't have the tech manuals on these you have to roll the dice here. You seem confident that you can replace it so why not try it?

As to the warranty, it does not matter since physical damage is never covered. I've had good luck with Sony's repair depots in the USA and would use them again.
