MiniDV camcorder digitalization

This question may have been answered like a million times, but i seem to have read every possible solution for the issue, yet none of them seem to help my case. I have a Panasonic NV-GS27, and i would like to connect it to my PC through Firewire. According to all i read, it all should be plug&play, no drivers would be necceessary, yet my camera doesn't get recognised by good old windows. i can see the firewire card in the device manager, but nothing happens when i connect the camera. Previously, i tried it on my computer which has windows 7 on it, afterwards, since i thought it may be a compatibility issue, i brought the card to another PC with Win XP (SP3) on it, but nothing changed. It's been a real pain in the neck now, so i really hope for a helpful answer, which i thank you in Advance. (and sorry for any typos or language mistakes)

Have you launched a correctly configured video editor and tried to capture or edit the video - with the camcorder in "Play" or VCR mode? On the XP machine, WinDV may help...

Firewire devices do not behave the same way as USB devices.

Which firewire card manufacturer? I've never seen a Dynex branded card work... SIIG, Belkin and others seem to be just fine. There may be others which suffer the same issues as the Dynex branded cards.

"No driver's necessary" is partially true. The manufacturer's firewire driver for the card is necessary... no drivers needed for the camcorder, though.

I attempted to capture video in Sony Vegas and Windows Movie Maker, both said "no device detected" (as far as i know, it's supposed to appear at the "my computer" screen where you can see your hard drives).
The card is made by hama, no driver included, the instruction manual also says it's plug& play.

Since card, cable and camcorder don't work anywhere.

You'll have to test each on its own. I find this to be a no joy area or rather folk may not have friends to get this done.

Could be as simple as you didn't have the camcorder in play mode to a blown firewire port on the camcorder.
