Hi,
I have a camcorder (5yrs old) that uses mini 8mm discs to record unto.
I recorded an important event (5 min long) using a dvd-rw mini 8mm disc. I recorded in VR mode.
I have not finalized the disc on the unit yet.
My mistake was not setting the date prior to my recording my event.
Can I still fix this/change the date? When I am reviewing the video on the camcorder, it shows the wrong date throughout the entire video.
It is really important for me to change this.
My camcorder is: Panasonic VDR-D220.
Note: While in playback mode in the unit, I can go into menu. There is a setting in the menu section that says date format, but i dont want to do anything yet unless it is the place to start.
Also, I can not remove the disc from this unit UNLESS I finalize it first inside the camcorder. So I dont want to take disc out.

This sounds like something we would fix in post production. That is, a video editor. Just turn off the onscreen date and time then put on your own later.

I turned on camcorder, went into menu, setup, then scrolled down to DATE/TIME & it says there it is already OFF. I recorded a few seconds and it still showed the date/time. So dont know why (even though in settings it says OFF), it still recorded the date.
Anyways, I have a windows xp computer & at this point, do you suggest I finalize the disc(its at the end anyways). Then insert it into my pc and do the 'fixing' there?
I dont have a dvd burner in my pc. What program (free preferred) can I use to fix the date? Luckily its only lik 4-5 min long, so its ok if I have to do frame by frame.

You write you are playing it on the camcorder but that's not where I'd be playing it. I would have downloaded the video onto my PC then played it there. I'm sure you've done this before so I will not write about that here.
If the date and time is burned into the video we will have to use an opaque area to hold our fake date/time information.
There are many video editors but here's a discussion about overlays in Sony Vegas.

Sometimes you encounter folk that never edited video so when you do, give them a lot of time. Just be sure you are clear they need to dig in and learn as no one I know teaches video editing in a forum.

Looks like I will download to pc then investigate on editing from that point on.
At least I learned that it is possible to do. Just got to have time and patience and
learn from this mistake.

If the date time is in the video then I have to use some blank background to sit on top of that and my new fake date time is on top of that. It's not as nice as the date time which you get to see the video underneath but this is about all I can do.
