Canon Vixia HF M50 External Mic Trouble

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF M50 and a pair of external lapel microphones. When I plug the mics into the external jack, all I get is a bunch of buzzing, but absolutely no external sound at all. I've gone through the settings and I still can't get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, the mics work, because when I plugged them into my laptop's external jack, both mics do work. Thanks again! happy

Look at http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MKE-400-Shotgun-Microphone/dp/B0014YVAJG and you see a mic with batteries, etc. Many cameras do not use PC Microphones.

The above link is the mic I bought. Some of the reviewers used it. So it should work, but it doesn't

You indicate "mics" - plural

So... you are plugging in both mics at the same time using some sort of splitter? Have you tried plugging in only one mic without the splitter?

Remember, we cannot see what you see and do not know what you have - or have not - done.
