Sony Handycam Projector Bulb Life Expectancy???

Does anyone know what the life expectancy is for the projectors built into some of the Sony Handycams?

I just ordered the HDR-PJ260V and I am inclined to use the projector sparingly to avoid burning out the lamp.

The bulbs in the projects we use for presentations at work burn out and have to be replaced, so I assume that lamps in these camcorder projectors may burn out too.

I can't find any info online but I hope I am wrong and can use the projector as much as I want without worrying about exceeding it's lifespan...

I got a hold of Sony and they told me the projector uses DLP technology...

After researching DLP projector technology a little bit, I learned that they generally have a life of 10,000 to 30,000 hours, with out any diminished brightness.

So basically I'll want a new camcorder long before the projector reaches its expected lifespan. However, with that in mind, it does not mean it can't break. It just should not "wear out" from normal use.

Hopefully this info is helpful to others too. wink

The rating is usually in the many thousands of hours. Unlike a tungsten bulb (incandescent) this is not technically a "bulb." So the same failures are not applicable.

Frankly when a maker won't answer questions about their product that I feel are important, I don't buy it.
