Camcorders forum: Camcorder and streaming

So far, camcorder for web cams are only implemented with firewire. Be sure to check with who told you this would work.

Sorry but I think they mislead you. I have yet to see what you set up to work in the manner you are asking for.

And to head off some that may think it is possible, sure, if I go get something like http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/ and then be one of the first to try it.

Again, for camcorder as a web cam, firewire continues to be the solution.

I've done the research and hdmi does not work for data transfer.
So I got my fire wire cable and it works fine.

Now I have a different situation. I need to connect two cameras to my laptop as I need to have tow angles on my video. I got an express card with tow firewire ports. It works for one camera at the time if I put the other camera it will know that it's there but it will not send the image unless I disconnect the other camera.

any ideas??

I'm a systems engineer and have over the years done work on designs involving cameras of all sorts. What you are after is currently not in the consumer market. It does exist in the commercial market but tends to be in the 6 figure range until we get something sorted out. And even then it looks to be 720p on the cameras.

For now the cheap fix is two laptops, two cameras, two firewire cables and find your software guru to write an app to bring it all together on one screen over a network connection.

If this was some video you are creating, then we mix the video in post production.

if this is some surveillance work we use some IP cameras and the software for same.

Sorry but you may have to tell more. Here's a security IP camera with more than one on the display.

But first, the gurus are out there and making, using code like you find at http://www.theimagingsourceforums.com/archive/index.php/t-316110.html and the forum there.

Back to IP cameras. Try http://www.nchsoftware.com/surveillance/index.html and software like that.

Remember I can't guess if the usual security software is good enough. Folk that tinker with firewire and camcorders usually are after something else.
