Panasonic SDR-H18 Camcorder: How to reformat Hard Disk
by Craig2222_2 - 11/21/10 6:04 PM
When turning on our SDR-H18 video camera in either the movie playback or movie recording mode we get the following message: "HDD ERROR OCCURRED. PLEASE TURN UNIT OFF AND THEN TURN ON AGAIN." Turning the camera off & turning it back on again does not resolve the problem. It works fine in the 2 still Photo modes. We can also hook it up to our PC via USB & retrieve all our photos & movies except for one movie in one directory on the hard disk which appears to be corrupt. We can't remove the corrupt file or the directory via the PC/USB because apparently the camcorder USB channel is read only. Since I have retrieved all the files except the corrupt one, I would just like to re-format the hard drive. Unfortunately it appears that having just one corrupt file on the hard disk renders all movie modes inopperable. This is really sad because the hard disk format function is accessed via one of the movie mode menus. Panasonic support says that my only remedy is to send it in for $$$ervice (the warranty has expired). This is really sad. The *#%!^& hard disk just needs to be reformatted. Any suggestions?
