Digital Camera vs. Video Camera

My wife and I are about to have our first child. We're looking to either buy a digital camera that takes good pics and good video, or a video camera that takes good pics.

We don't do anything high-tech....just want to be able to download pictures and videos to send to family, post on facebook, etc.

Should I get a digital camera that can take video?
Or should I get a video camera that takes good pictures?
