Sony HVR-V1U

I and a friend just purchased this camera from Sony and we need some urgent help as we have a project coming up and just can't seem to find a solution. We also purchased a wireless microphone set which we will be using to do an interview, but at the moment, we can't seem to get both channels on the camera to work at the same time when we plug them into the camera. At this moment, though both channels are on we don't hear anything.

Simply what we do is plug in all cables provided exactly where they need to be, since the camera has channels one and two, we set one of the wireless mics to channel 1 and the other to channel 2 and set up the camera to work with both channels by simply flicking the knob that gives the option to either just with with one channel or both.

The camera is the "Sony HVR-V1U", and the wireless microphone is "Shure PG14/PG185 Wireless Lavalier System".

We're assuming it's more a problem with settings but we can't seem to figure it out as we're learning everything about this camera ourselves. Please help.

The Sony HVR-V1U DV/HDV miniDV tape based camcorder is in the "pro" category. It has XLR audio-in connectors.

The Shure PG4 base station (used in the "PG14/PG185 Wireless Lavalier System") has a 1/4" (unbalanced) connector and a XLR (balanced/shielded) connector on the back (in addition to the poser connector). Which connector and which cable are you using to connect the camcorder and base station(s)? XLR mic cables are recommended. Stay away from any unshielded/unbalanced 1/4" cabling for this connection.

Assuming you are connecting the camcorder and base station using good shielded/balanced cables with XLR connectors on both sides, what happens when you connect only one set?

Are base station 1 and body pack 1 on the same channel? What channel?
Are base station 2 and body pack 2 on the same channel - but different from base station 1 and body pack 1? What channel?

Separately with the base stations not connected to the camera:
When base station 1 is on and body pack 1 is on, what is the indicator on the front panel of base station 1? Body pack 1 is not in "mute". Gain setting on body pack 1 is set to "mic".

When base station 2 is on and body pack 2 is on, what is the indicator on the front panel of base station 2? Body pack 2 is not in "mute". Gain setting on body pack 2 is set to "mic".

Simultaneously with the base stations not connected to the camera:
Turn on base station 1 and body pack 1. The "Ready" LED on the base station lights. When there is audio the lav hears, the "audio" light illuminates...

Turn on base station 2 and body pack 2. Did anything change on base station 1's front panel indicators?

channels are being used... still need to be sure that the body pack 1 and base station 1 channel and body pack 2 and base station 2 channels match... I suggest separating the channels further - perhaps put base station 2 and body pack 2 on channel 5 or above.
