Video Camera to Wireless conversion

Hi Guys,

I have a technical question. I am looking for a way to take a camcorder and take the output of that camera and send it wirelessly to a router. Then I can have an application which picks up that stream and does whatever it wants with it.

I know that its going to be a very bandwidth intensive stream to the router so we would need some encoding before to a lower bit rate before we actually stream it to the router.

I am just curious if anyone knows of any product which can help in the facilitation of this.

I guess if i really wanted I could attach my laptop to the camcorder through firewire and then on the laptop encode and then send to the network. I was just hoping there was some hardware that can be a plug and play. Small hardware that we could even plug into the firewire slot. The hardware would take the data, encode it and then send it over the wireless network to wherever it needs to go....

Appreciate any help someone can come up with...

Hi there,

thanks for the reply...what i'm actually looking for is for high bandwidth attachments. Something like 802.11n usb/firewire adapter. Which can then send the video over to my network or my laptop. I would think a network company would be looking to develop these adapters for consumer electronics which have usb/firewire adapters.

I know one of the limitations is the ability to send out the full load on limited bandwidth. But with 11n gaining momentum I think an adapter running on 11n network should now be able to send over the data....

Any thougts?

What you need is to find them. You can find some from Dlink, Sony, and so on but the problem as I see it is that you are just starting your research. There are too many such devices available today. What needs to be developed?
