Best software to convert avchd

I am needing to know what software would you all recommend for answering this question

Can i write AVCHD video to DVD and watch in regular DVD or need any special player?-- Yes, but you need to convert the video on your computer using software to convert AVCHD video to regular MPEG2 which will play on a standard definition DVD player. No special player needed.

If the $600 Vegas is too much, the Studio version for around $100 will do just fine.

-Abosolutely yes, and it is very easy to burn avchd videos to DVD for playing on DVD player, for windows users, there is a free software-windows dvd maker to burn dvd, but it doesn't support avchd files, so you need convert them to mpeg-2 vob using final mate, and then burn to dvd. if you are a mac user, just use Final mate for mac to convert avchd to mov for iDVD and then burn to dvd.
