Handycam CCD-F401

Hello,

Sorry if this isn't in the right section.

My camcorder stopped working a few years ago, and just recently I thought I'd try to revive it. It turns on- you can see the screen light up etc, but when you push "play" or "rewind" etc, it doesn't kick in- doesn't do anything. Then an arrow type icon appears in the middle of the screen and flashes constantly.

It ejects fine. Focuses fine. I just can't use it at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a manual..and am unable to find one online.

My sony ccd-f401 camcorder stopped a few years ago, When it is in camera mode, the screen will pick up what it is viewing with a double picture of all objects, but the camcorder record or play will not work. I have discovered there is a dime shaped battery located on bottom of camera which might have something to do with the auto focus.

Did you find a manual, and were you able to get any help from it?

Not sure if it's going to help me yet though. The blinking "arrow" in the middle is the condensation/moisture "alert". It says to take the tape out and let it sit- makes it sound like it's the tape that is the problem. But this happens with every tape I put in there. So I'm leaving the camcorder open for a few days or longer.

I also am going to change that battery you're referring to, as I did get something blinking at the bottom of the screen from time to time- looked it up, and it's that battery. Maybe that's what's causing the moisture meter to act up too? Who knows.

My auto focus works fine..I would think the main battery would be responsible for that..not this little one that seems to be more for storing your date/time etc. I could be wrong though.

ccd-f401 sony handycam not playing tape back

I am having this problem also. I bought the small battery but it hasn't helped. I found the manual on the sony site buy typing in the modul # ccd-f401. I am having the same thing happen with the blinking arrow flashing in the veiw finder whenever I put a tape in. Have you had any success getting it to work? I also have it sitting open hopeing it just needs to air out. I bought it second hand and I only have the power adapter cord to plug into the wall, no chargeable battery. I don't have the remote either. I was wondering if that made a differance for some reason.
