Camcorders forum: Downloading from Panasonic camcorder to Mac???

This is still a bit new to me. I saw several mentions of different types of firewire conenctions but not sure exactly what I need with the Panasonic. Glad to forget about USB... so slow. Thanks again.

Does USB port double as a mini-firewire port? There is no specific firewire port on the panasonic. Does that mean I cannot download to the Mac?

I know your Panasonic is 100% compatible with the Mac. I've used your camera on my Mac before, and now I use a PV-GS31 (basically the same camera). Works perfectly. You need the Firewire cable that has the small square end for the camera and the larger end for the standard Mac firewire port. The camera just have their firewire ports in different locations. My GS31 has it under the hand-strap inside the hatch door.

In order to capture movie clips from my Panasonic SDR-H60P camcorder to my MAC mini desktop, I found that the only way I could get the process to work was to
1) connect the two by USB cable.
2) open the IMovie program.
3) go to the program's File menu.
a) "Import from Camera" reported an error and closed the program, (perhaps because it is only for importing pictures from a still camera)
b) "Import" . . . "Camera Archive" DID work.
