Play/Edit mode doesnt work in Sony HC30

Hi All

I have bought a sony hc30 camcorder around 6 months ago. It worked fine till now, and recently I have noticed an issue. It records well in the tape mode. And I can click the pictures in the camera mode on to the memory stick.

But when I move it to the play/edit mode, the controls do not work. I cannot play or edit my pictures or the tape on it. Though, using my firewire I can stream the video and capture it.

I am not able to set the settings in the play/edit mode for usb streaming since the screen does not respond. In the tape mode, the screen controls work, so the touch screen panel is working fine.

I have tried the reset, but still the problem is the same.

Has anyone faced similar problems and has any clue of the same.

I just discovered that I have the same problem and I do not know the cause. Any ideas?

My ever growing list of Sony HC30 problems

Faced similar problems and more. Camcorder less than two years old, little used and well looked after. Already had the CCD replaced (not 'black screen of death' more bright green) luckily under warranty. Now the play/edit functionality doesn't work either through the LCD touch screen or remote. Only way to access recorded video is via iMovie HD on my MacMini. Other problems include a strange clicking coming from the camcorder when it has been switched off, battery draining very quickly when off, and also problems with the memory stick automatically going into record mode when playing back video through my MAC. At 470, this is way beyond a joke. My discussions with Sony have proved fruitless as in my case the customer appears to be of little importance. Good luck. Be interested to hear how you get on. For anyone else reading this, steer well clear of this and similar Sony models.

I have the same symptoms with Sony HC30

I'm experiencing the same problems as you did with HC30. As long as there is any battery power left, you can hear pretty loud clicking sound and the battery is unable to hold juice for long. Another odd thing that I didn't see you mention is that when I click on record button, the camcorder tries to record to memory stick instead of the tape and enters play/edit mode for no reason. It has been working fine for about two years, and these problems seem to surface from nowhere. It wasn't used very much and have been well cared for. I used to like Sony products, but this one makes me think twice in the future.

Did you find out solution? I did call Sony support. They only asked me to send the camcorder in for out-of-warranty service, presumably at my own cost. I suspect that it's a generic problem with the product. We may need to buy a new camcorder. But this experience will surely make me shy away from buying a Sony camcorder again.

Thanks for sharing your experience. There is some comfort in knowing that I'm not alone in experiencing such problems happy

Same Problem

I exactly has same issue. My camcorder play/edit frozes and I was borrowing my friends camcorder to capture my vedios for a long time.

If you fixed this issue, please let me know how can I resolve this?
