Digital Camera vs Camcorder

I am thinking of buying the Sony DCS M01 due to the fact that it has Camorder/Camera functionality. i already own a digital rebal but wanted something smaller for portability. Do yall think it would be better getting the Sony or for the money just get a regular Camcorder and if so what do yall suggest for around 650$ and that is exstremly portable?

Almost all digital camcorders have a Digital Camera function on it as well - even many for much less that $650. What is not quite as nice is the megapixels - most are about 1.7-2.0. SO if you are only pulling off 3x5 or maybe even 4x6 you should be ok, but don;t plan on any 8x10's

having said that, I jsut bought a cancon elura 85 and LOVE the digital camera feature. I also have a ''nicer'' digital camera and did not think I would use this feature as much. well after my first two days of use I have about 90 GOOD pictures - it is so convient to snap a picture while video taping (and you can do it while still taping). takes great pictures. other more expensie ones may have much better megapixels I don;t know, but if you just want smaller basic pics other cheaper ones may work.

If you end up taking some nice family portrait or sunset, just use your nicer digital camera for that. for quicky shots while video taping use the camcorder

Keep it simple, if you wnat to shoot video get a video camera. If you want to shoot stills get a still camera.
Buy the camera that fits what you want to do. John
