Camera advice for sort-of newbie.

I have a Canon Powershot A610 that is dying, and wasn't able to do what I needed it to do. Unfortunately, when I said that I wanted a new camera, my parents went and got one for me for Christmas without actually researching what I wanted.
I'm a big concert goer, and the A610 just was not sufficient for low light/laser type shows. The pictures were EXTREMELY blurry no matter what I did, however I do not know enough to adjust apertures and exposures which I've been reading up on and seem to make or break some cameras.
They got me a Canon PowerShot SX160. Reading the reviews on Amazon is a little frightening, as there are many saying action shots are not good with this camera and an equal number saying the camera does great action shots.
Mom offered that if this camera truly won't do a decent concert shot, that she'd take it back and get something that was suggested as better. What should I do? If i figure out the adjustments and low light settings in manual, will this camera at least have the possibility of getting some decent concert shots? Is there another camera in the same type of price range that readers here would recommend instead for what I need?
(And yes, I know a point and shoot for less than $200 will not ever be "great" in low light, I'm just looking for the best option, as professional cameras get confiscated at the concerts I go to and my parents won't pay more than $200. Thank you!)
