Which lens is best for me? 35mm f2 or 50mm 1.4

I'm 22 years old and I've always shot with film (canon a-1, 50mm 1.8) for my photography projects.
Finally it is time to move on to digital photography and so I have decided my first camera (that's within my budget) will be the Canon 7D.
I am, however, having real problems deciding between 50mm 1.4 or 35mm f2, due to the crop sensor on this camera.
I need a lens for everyday use because it will be my only one for a while... I do normally create my own pictures (conceptual photography) so I do spend sometime taking one single shot... but street photography is also in my interests.
What I do love is shooting portraits and also night shots - from what i've read the 50mm is the best for these situations, but I'm scared that it would "zoom" in just too much because of the crop sensor... since a 35mm will act like a 50mm on the 7D body (which is what I'm used to with my film camera) I'm wondering if I should go there or not...
Any kind of help/opinion will be appreciated
Sorry for any english mistakes.
