what is the best camera for red-eye reduction?

I'm looking to buy a new camera that will mostly be used for going out at night. I get terrible red-eye in every picture and it's so embarrassing. I'd like to find the best point and shoot to at least reduce the red eye or automatically fix it.

Here's some other specs I'd like:
under $250
decent quality and fast shutter speed
decent battery life

Other than that, I know almost nothing about cameras so I'm not sure what else would be important. Please help recommend cameras to me!!! Thanks

The best way to cure red-eye photos is to not use the flash. Barring that, you want a camera that either has a red-eye reduction pre-flash, or a red-eye remover function. Unfortunately, there is no list or search engine that I am aware of that would allow you to search for those camera features.

If you do not mind buying a factory refurbished camera, that would be my recommendation, because you can get a much higher quality camera for a very good price. The following cameras are not as compact as what you may be accustomed to...they won't fit in a shirt pocket...but they have much bigger imaging sensors, meaning you can shoot at higher sensitivities (ISO) without flash and still get sharp looking photos. The Nikon is especially easy to use:

I forgot to mention that a flash that has a tilt/swivel head will also prevent red eye, since there would not be flash directly entering the eye. Most cameras do not have a built-in flash that can tilt or swivel, but some compacts can accept an external flash (although adding one makes the whole package rather large.)
