Help choosing a camera

Hey everyone. So my first camera was a Pentax k-7, which I got after much research. It was stolen from me a few weeks ago. I want to get a new camera before my upcoming trip, so I need to decide relatively soon. I need help deciding what I should get. My budget is around $1,000, preferably less than that. Ive been looking at the Canon t4i kit that comes with a 18-135 mm STM lens. I've always liked how canons colors looked.

Another camera ive looked at is the pentax k-5 II, which is a little pricey, but the build quality is fantastic, and I want to be able to travel pretty much everywhere with the camera. Someone else already recommended the nikon D5200, however, since I need to buy in the US, its unavailable to me, and I might not be able to wait for it due to my time restrictions. Can anyone help me with a decision? or with other camera recommendations?

If you were happy with the K-7, I think you might be a little bit disappointed in the controls of the T4i. The Canon has a smaller viewfinder, no top deck status LCD, and only one control dial. In it's favor is the articulated rear LCD.

While the new K-5 II is expensive, the slightly older Nikon D7000 is $1000 factory refurbished with arguably the best kit lens, the Nikon 18-105mm. I'd choose it over the D5200.
