Sporting/concert photos - best option?

Hello,

I am hoping someone on this forum can help me out.

I'm looking to find a new camera for around the £300 mark max.

I'll be using it to take photos at football and at indoor rock concerts from different distances.

Are bridge cameras best for the money I have for this?

So-called bridge camera have long zoom lenses, which is good. But they have small sensors and small apertures lenses, which means there is a good chance you would not get good quality photos from them at indoor rock concerts. The other problem is that bridge cameras look similar to DSLR cameras, and security may not let you pass.

Travel Zoom

The only all-in-one option is a travel zoom camera, which is like a superzoom but without an eye level viewfinder. Examples of the breed include the Canon SX260 HS, Panasonic ZS-20, and Sony HX30V. These will give you most if not all the zoom you want, but in a compact camera size and look. They will not work well at a rock concert though, unless you are closer to the stage where you can use the wider and brighter end of the lens. You would get better results with video, which is much less demanding than photography.
