Which Camera is best for my wife?

Hi All,

I am purchasing a camera for my wife for the X-mas. With my limited knowledge in cameras I decided I'd come to the experts for their opinion.

My wife would only use the camera for recreational purposes (ie. photos of freinds and family, travel, etc...).

My price range is <$300.

The two that stuck out to me most were as follows.

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS 12.1 MP $200

I like the zoom capabilities for our upcoming trip to Belgium.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20 $150

This one seems more compact and easy to carry around.

What do you think?

I too am going to buy my wife a new camera for xmas. I have looked at several and am leaning toward the Canon. One reason is that Canon uses the SD card which has pretty much become the standard, also I think the Canon functionality is a little easier to deal with than most. Sony and others make really nice hardware but I prefer the SD card for storage, it is more universal than the Sony duo chip.

All cameras use SD cards

Sony cameras have accepted SD cards for a few years now; they do not require use of the proprietary Memory Sticks.

This is a waterproof model and waterproof cameras usually produce average to below average picture quality.
It uses a 16 megapixel sensor which is noisy and the engineers have to use noise reduction firmware to reduce the noise. This also reduces the small detail in the picture.
