I am looking at buying either the d3200 d5200 d3100 d5100 - I will primarily be taking pics of my kids - still shots and them doing different sports - basketball, football etc. I have some of my dads older nikon lenses which i might consider using with the camera. Which camera would be the best buy for me and which lense should i get.

There is only about $100 difference between the lowest price and the highest price.
The image quality will be the same for all.
It really does not make any difference which you choose.

I would not be looking for a new lens right now.
You need to try all of your dad's old film lenses first and see which ones you want to use.

Here is some help from Nikon as to which will work with the NIKON camera you choose:

If some of the sports you want to photograph are indoor you should choose a bright lens.
The brightest zoom lens will be an aperture of f/2.8 and they will cost more that say a lens with an aperture of f/4.0 or f/5.6

If you are considering the D5200, you may as well step up to the D7000. The D7000 is a better camera and heavily discounted because it's "old." The D5200 hasn't even hit the shelves yet; you'd pay top dollar to be a first-adopter.

Depending on how old your dad's film Nikon lenses are, they will fit but there is a good chance they will not autofocus, most especially on any of the one's your considering. The D7000 can autofocus some of them because it has an in-body motor for the AF lenses that require a screw-drive motor.
