My first SLR

I am seeking advice on the purchase of my first SLR. I am looking at the Nikon 7000. Wondering about the new Nikon D5200 coming out or other good quality, excelent image, fast picutre taking for auto focus entry level user. Wanting to capture family events, not so much for travel.

Do you want to spend about the same amount of money for a lesser camera? Because the D7000 is discounted quite a bit now, but the D5200 you will pay full price unless you wait awhile.
