Why does my camera show flat battery when plugged into PC

I have a Traveler DC-6900 (Aldi), which is about 5yrs old. It shows that the rechargeable batteries are nearly flat, so I've tried new ones; the same happens. On plugging into my PC via a USB lead, the camera shows batteries are totally flat and turns itself off, so am unable to access my pix via PC. Is this a software problem with the camera? (There are no updates available). My operating system is Windows 7.

Use a Card Reader

I don't have an answer as to why your camera won't connect with your PC, but using a USB card reader will allow you to access and import the images.

When I read dawntash's concern I immediately think that the camera needs to be replaced. Especially, it is stated that it's 5 years old already. I haven't thought about the use of card reader. happy

Thanks for your advice, I hadn't thought of a card reader either, especially as my laptop has one; it's know being used to much delight! I do agree, I think I need a new camera especially as it's only 6megapixels, it's rather dated and is probably 'on it's last legs'!

Thank you so much, I didn't even think of taking out the memory card to access my photos! I've no need for the USB card reader as have a card reader in my laptop, which I'm now using to access and import the photos, which I suppose would've been the simpler thing to do anyway in the first place! The good thing is the in-built card reader has been used for the first time and now realize my camera is soooo old! Thanks again for your help, it's been very useful and much appreciated.
