Digital cameras forum: Lumix TZ7/ZS3 vs Sony DSC-H70

I see. Unfortunately the lumix i was looking at may no longer be available for that price so i may not have an option.
Is there somewhere you looked at a comparison of the photos?

I like to compare photos of the same subject taken with different cameras.

Start with the Sample Panasonic photos.


This particular reviewer almost always includes a particular photo in their samples.

Find the photo of two artillery pieces (howitzers) in a park.
In this case they are in the top row of photos.


Click on that photo.
It is a large photo and will take some time to fully download.
While it is downloading examine the photo.
After it has fully downloaded, it will revert to a smaller photo.
You don't want the small photo, so click on the small photo and it will revert to the very large photo.
Now you can scroll around and examine the photo at full size.
This is generally called pixel peeping.

Look at the tree leaves in the background.
Look at the fir tree in the right background notice that it is not as well defined as the tree leaves left of center in the background. That is normal because a fir tree has small needles and not actual leaves.

Look at the left and right sides of the photos and see if they are as sharp as the middle of the photo.

Look at all four corners of the photo and check for sharpness of the image.

Look at the grass at the bottom and see how well the blades are defined.

Look at the roof of the building in the background and see if the shingles are defined and not just a smudge.

Everything you see is about normal for a good camera of this type.

Now

Look at the sample photo from the Sony H70.

Look at the same things on the Sony photos.

Draw your own conclusion.

If you are going to print pictures in 4x6 inch size,
you won't be able to tell the difference.
If you are going to make large prints or do much cropping, or create HD slide shows, you will see the differences.

Also, considering that my current camera is a Lumix FS7, if I cant get the TZ7, would the Sony still be a worthwhile upgrade from the FS7? Would the images be better than the FS7 even with the noisy sensor?
